Overview
Cartlane stores your shopping information on your Android device. It has no user accounts, app servers, advertising, analytics, or tracking SDKs. The app publisher does not receive your shopping lists, purchases, prices, household keys, or usage history through the app.
Local Information
Cartlane stores list and item names, quantities, store names, aisle layouts, collection and availability status, favorites, bundles, item catalog edits, entered prices, purchase history, edit versions, and a randomly generated installation identifier. This information enables the shopping and synchronization features. The installation identifier is created by Cartlane; it is not an advertising ID or a hardware identifier.
Optional Household Sync
Creating or joining a household shares the phones' shopping information with nearby devices using the same private household key. Transfer includes lists, layouts, item catalog edits, favorites, bundles, prices, purchase history, and installation/edit identifiers. Transfers use local Wi-Fi TCP or paired Bluetooth and authenticated AES-GCM encryption. The publisher and network intermediaries do not have the household key. Anyone you give the key to can join and receive household information. Sync runs while Cartlane is open. Leaving stops future sync, but does not erase information already received by another phone.
Local Connections And Permissions
Wi-Fi discovery advertises a temporary service label, service type, and local port to nearby devices. Local IP addresses and connection status are used to connect phones; they are not sent to the publisher or used to determine location. Bluetooth requires paired-device access and the Android Nearby devices permission on newer versions. Cartlane uses bonded device names and addresses for the device picker and connections. It does not scan for location, request contacts, access the microphone or camera, or use advertising identifiers.
Keys And Clipboard
The household secret is encrypted in app-private preferences using Android Keystore. Choosing Copy key places it on the Android clipboard. On supported versions, the app marks that clip as sensitive. Android and clipboard-enabled software may handle copied content, so only copy and share the key with people you trust.
Backups And Sharing
Export a backup writes your shopping information, without encryption, to a location you choose through Android's file picker. Backups exclude the household secret. The selected document provider may be local or a cloud provider you use and is governed by that provider's policies. Import reads only the backup you select. Share list passes a text copy to the app you choose in Android's share sheet. These actions are optional and initiated by you. Keep exported files private.
Retention And Deletion
Shopping information remains in app-private storage until you remove it or clear the app's storage. Removed records may remain as synchronization tombstones, and completed trips retain purchase and price history. Clear storage or uninstall Cartlane to remove the complete local app database. Exported backups and other household phones' copies must be deleted separately. Android automatic app backup is disabled. Cartlane cannot remotely delete another phone's data and does not keep a publisher-side database.
Support And Third-party Services
If you email support, your email provider and the support mailbox handle the address, message, and any files you choose to send. Do not send your household key. Google Play and Android may process installation, store, security, or device information under their own policies; Cartlane does not add a telemetry or crash-reporting service. A public policy website's host may process ordinary web-request information when you visit that website. Reference grocery prices are bundled in the app. Opening a price-source link opens your browser; its provider and the source website handle that visit under their own policies.
Audience And Updates
