Netflix is introducing an experimental AI Discover tab for its TV app, beginning with themed recommendations rather than a blank conversational prompt. TechCrunch reports that the feature is starting to roll out to US members using Netflix in English on supported televisions.
Pick a viewing situation
The initial experience offers themes such as something light, family movie night, quick watches and horror. Suggestions can reflect mood, viewing preferences, available time or what is new and trending.
After selecting a theme, members see matching recommendations and can narrow their choice further or ask for something different. The interface is intended to make the search for a title more directed than repeatedly scrolling through the whole catalogue.
Feedback is part of the experience
The report describes a Tune Your Recommendations control beside the usual playback and list options. Members can save suggestions they like or exclude titles they do not want recommended again.
Netflix says the new intelligence layer responds to feedback in real time and keeps learning. That is the company's description of the system; the announcement does not establish that its suggestions are more accurate for every viewer.
An experiment with a limited rollout
Netflix calls the tab a test kitchen for discovery ideas. Feedback will help determine which features are retained or improved before becoming part of the main experience. Availability on a supported US TV does not imply simultaneous access on every device or in every country.
What to look for
Eligible viewers should see a Discover button with a red gem icon in the TV navigation. A useful way to judge the feature is whether its themes reduce the time needed to choose a satisfying title, and whether feedback noticeably improves later suggestions. The practical change is another way to steer discovery, not a guarantee that an AI system can infer what someone wants to watch.
