Makeform: Free AI Form Builder
Makeform is an AI-assisted form builder for intake, registration, feedback and other structured questionnaires. Its official feature overview describes turning a prompt into an editable draft, then configuring the questions, logic, appearance and response workflow. AI generation is the starting point, not a reason to skip checking the respondent's experience.
Review the generated form
The builder can draft questions, structure, copy and logic from a description. The editor lets you adjust fields, pages, rules, messages and destinations afterward. Specify what information is actually needed, then remove unnecessary questions instead of accepting every generated field.
Documented input types include choices, ratings, dates, file uploads, signatures and payment fields. Conditional logic and calculations let a form show different paths or calculate a result. Answer piping can reuse earlier answers, while hidden fields pass values through URL parameters.
Check each branch with representative answers before publishing. Avoid putting sensitive information in a URL merely because hidden fields accept it. These are workflow checks to perform, not a report that we tested a live form or verified its privacy controls.
Decide what follows submission
Makeform lists hosted links, embeds and popup forms. Connections include Google Sheets, Notion, Slack, webhooks and automation services. Its MCP and API options provide another route for agents or custom systems to work with forms and submissions.
The payment documentation requires a connected Stripe account. It supports one-time payments; recurring payments and subscriptions are not currently available. Makeform says it adds no payment-collection fee, but Stripe processing fees still apply. A free form therefore is not the same as cost-free payment processing.
For payment changes, the documentation says edits update the draft and require publishing again before new respondents see the new amount. Confirm the published version rather than assuming an editor change is already live.
Distinguish free access from advanced controls
The hosted Free offering advertises unlimited forms and submissions subject to fair usage. The separate headless backend is in bounded private preview, with its own Free endpoint and submission allowance; those headless limits do not replace the hosted-form terms.
Pro adds features such as branding removal, custom domains, advanced logic and collaboration. Business adds data-retention and access controls. Some security and integration features are marked coming soon on the feature page, so confirm availability rather than assuming every homepage label is implemented. The overview does not establish benchmarked spam prevention or an unlimited allowance for every AI operation.
