Give an agent a defined job
Carly describes custom agents with their own names, email addresses, integrations, permissions, and files. Custom skills let users supply policies, templates, and operating procedures. Those controls are useful when a task needs more direction than a request to handle the inbox.
For example, a team could specify which leads need a follow-up and what information an agent should record in the CRM. Keep the allowed actions and recipients explicit, especially if the workflow can send messages or update a shared system. A connected account gives the agent a route to act, so review permissions before delegating unattended work.
Scheduling features include group coordination, booking links, availability polls, working-hour preferences, and event details. The platform lists Google and Microsoft email and calendars, plus integrations such as Slack, Salesforce, and HubSpot. Confirm the particular connection and action you need before assuming a broad integration list covers it.
Separate recurring tasks from deterministic workflows
The pricing FAQ distinguishes agent work from workflows without model calls. Deterministic workflows, emails sent from an agent's account, and tool calls through Carly's MCP connector are described as costing no Carly credits. That does not establish that an external MCP client's own model usage is free.
For workflow steps that do use a model, Carly lists a flat 0.025 credits per call. More open-ended agent operations do not have one fixed formula, and the publisher warns that recurring scheduled tasks can consume substantial credits. A simple rule-based workflow may fit an inbox filter better than repeatedly asking an agent to reconsider it.
Match the plan to the responsibility
Personal is listed at $35 per month with 200 monthly credits. Organization is $35 per seat per month and adds shared agents, team controls, and pooled allowances. Business SMS, calling, and the AI receptionist are separate add-ons, not included merely by choosing Organization.
The Free offer lists MCP access, ten workflows, a multi-calendar view, and task management. Check the current plan details before expecting paid assistant features in that tier. Carly says extra credits are prepaid without automatic top-up charges. Review actual usage and the agent's completed actions before increasing its budget or permissions.
