Google Labs has introduced Dreambeans, a new AI-powered application for iOS and Android designed to transform personal data into a curated collection of illustrated stories. By leveraging information across a user's Google ecosystem, the app aims to provide daily inspiration in the form of lifestyle suggestions, event insights, and exploration topics.
Personalized Daily Inspiration
The core functionality of Dreambeans relies on what the company calls Personal Intelligence. With user permission, the tool connects to various Google services, including Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search History. It then distills this data to generate a finite list of 10 to 14 stories each day. These stories are intended to act as a "doomscrolling antidote," offering a limited, manageable dose of information to help users find new ideas and engage with their surroundings.
The content provided by the app varies based on the user's specific data. For example, the tool might suggest a local coffee shop based on geographical data or provide insights on pet care if a user has an upcoming event, such as getting a new puppy, marked in their Google Calendar. Other stories may include news articles curated to align with the user's past interests.
Privacy and Data Control
According to product lead Gozde Oznur, privacy is a central component of the app's design. The stories generated by Dreambeans are accessible only to the individual user. Furthermore, the app provides users with the ability to choose which Google services they wish to connect to the tool and allows them to delete their data at any time.
The Origin of the Name
The name Dreambeans is derived from the app's overnight processing cycle. The "dream" portion of the name refers to the system working through a user's data while they sleep. The "beans" portion draws a parallel to a freshly brewed cup of coffee, symbolizing the app’s goal of distilling vast amounts of information into a concentrated, refreshing source of inspiration to start the day.
Dreambeans is currently available to eligible U.S.-based Google AI Ultra subscribers on Android and iOS. A waitlist is also available for users with a personal Google account.
