Microsoft is integrating OpenAI's Sora model into its Bing app with the launch of the Bing Video Creator. This marks the first time that Sora's video generation capabilities will be accessible for free to users. The new feature allows users to generate videos from text prompts, providing a novel way to create short video clips directly within the Bing ecosystem.
While currently limited to the Bing app and not yet available on desktop, this move signifies a significant step in making advanced AI video generation more accessible to the general public. At launch, the Bing Video Creator offers users the ability to generate up to 10 free video clips, provided they are logged into their Microsoft account.
After the initial free allowance, users can generate additional videos by spending 100 Microsoft Rewards points per video. These points can be earned through various activities, such as using Bing for searches or making purchases in the Microsoft Store. This incentivizes user engagement with the Bing platform while providing a cost-effective way to continue generating AI-powered videos.
The current iteration of the Bing Video Creator has some limitations. Users can queue up to three 5-second video generations at a time, with no option to adjust the video length. Additionally, videos are currently generated in a vertical 9:16 aspect ratio, optimized for platforms like TikTok and Instagram.
However, Microsoft plans to introduce horizontal 16:9 uploads soon, expanding the versatility of the video creation tool and catering to a broader range of content formats. Despite these constraints, the free availability of Sora-powered video generation in Bing represents a significant advancement in the democratization of AI video technology.
