Samsung has made a significant move into the humanoid robotics sector by becoming the largest shareholder in Rainbow Robotics, a Korean company known for developing the country's first humanoid robot, Hubo. After initially purchasing a 14.7% stake for approximately $59 million in 2023, Samsung has now increased its ownership to 35% and plans to incorporate Rainbow Robotics into its consolidated financial statements.

To further strengthen its position in robotics, Samsung has established a Future Robotics Office reporting directly to the CEO and appointed Rainbow Robotics' founding member and KAIST honorary professor Jun-Ho Oh as its head. The collaboration aims to combine Samsung's AI and software capabilities with Rainbow Robotics' expertise to accelerate the development of intelligent humanoid robots for manufacturing and logistics, with plans to expand into global markets using Samsung's international infrastructure.
