Anthropic AI has introduced the Anthropic Economic Index to empirically track AI's integration into various sectors. The index analyzes millions of anonymized Claude conversations, categorizing AI interactions by occupational tasks using the U.S. Department of Labor’s O*NET Database.

Findings indicate AI is heavily used in software development and writing, with 36% of occupations using AI for at least 25% of their tasks. The index distinguishes between AI augmentation and automation, revealing that augmentation is more prevalent. AI adoption is highest in mid-to-high wage tech jobs requiring cognitive skills, while physical labor and highly specialized fields show lower adoption.

This initiative offers a data-driven perspective on AI's economic impact, aiding discussions on the future of work and informing policy decisions.
