Chinese Tech Firms Suspend AI Tools During Gaokao Exams

Major Chinese technology companies have temporarily disabled certain AI functionalities to combat cheating during the intense gaokao exams.

The gaokao is a crucial, four-day university entrance exam.
This decision was made in response to the start of the gaokao on Saturday, June 7th, 2025. Over 13.3 million students are participating in the exams, which are a significant determinant of their future educational opportunities.

Preventing AI-Assisted Cheating

The freeze on AI tools aims to prevent students from utilizing advanced AI to gain an unfair advantage. This includes:
