Conversational work with Anthropic's assistant

Claude is an AI assistant built by Anthropic. Its getting-started guide describes using natural-language prompts for questions, analysis, creative writing and coding tasks. You can start with a request, supply more detail, and ask for a revision when the response misses an important requirement.

Claude is available in a browser, in a desktop app for Mac or Windows, and on iOS or Android. Those are access routes to the assistant rather than evidence that every feature behaves identically across devices. The guide requires a supported location and a minimum age of 18.

Choose the model and refine the request

The chat interface displays the active model below the input on web and desktop or at the top of the mobile screen. You can open the selector to switch among available models. The guide also describes controls for response effort and extended thinking; check the options shown for your own account instead of assuming an old version name defines the service.

For a writing task, give Claude the audience, the source material it may use and the required length. For code, include the relevant error and the behavior you expect. Then review the response against those requirements and ask for a focused correction. This is suggested prompting guidance, not a measured assessment of Claude's writing or coding performance.

The publisher describes support for English and many other common languages, with some ability in less common languages. Confirm important translations or technical terminology against a reliable reference rather than inferring equal quality across languages from that description.

Usage limits and moving context

The free plan has a session-based usage limit that resets every five hours. Anthropic says the number of available messages varies with demand and that other limits may apply. A five-hour reset therefore does not specify a guaranteed message count. Claude can notify you when you reach a limit or exceed the available context window; paid subscriptions offer additional usage.

The guide distinguishes conversation history from memory transfer. It says conversation history cannot be imported from another AI provider, while Free, Pro and Max users can use memory import. Do not expect that importing remembered preferences recreates earlier chat transcripts.

Review account terms and privacy settings before sharing confidential material. This getting-started page does not establish a subscription price, organization-specific retention policy or an API allowance. The overview has not tested installation, answer accuracy or account limits.
