Generate an image inside Canva
Canva's AI Image Generator turns a text description into image options with selectable styles and aspect ratios. The native page lets you describe the subject, setting and mood, generate a result, then change the prompt and regenerate. It also supports a reference photo. This entry covers that image-generation workflow, rather than treating Canva's entire design suite as a separate new AI product.
Start with the output you need: a presentation illustration or a visual concept for a social post, for example. Pick the shape for the intended layout before generating. Canva's page describes downloading the result or opening it in the editor to add text, layers and effects. These are documented options, not a guarantee that a generated image will match a brief on the first attempt.
Continue in the editor
Magic Media offers another documented route within the Canva editor. Open Magic Media from the side panel, or find it through Apps, then use the Images tab. Enter a description, choose a style and select a square, landscape or portrait layout.
The editor workflow supports generating another set or requesting more images like a selected result. Choose an image to add it to the design. Magic Media also has graphics and video tabs, but those are separate generation workflows; an image allowance should not be assumed to cover every other feature in the same way.
Account access and allowances
Canva's dedicated tools page requires sign-in or account creation before processing. Continuing with Edit in Canva opens an editor tab while the tool page remains available. The AI usage guide describes a shared monthly allowance whose size and feature access depend on the plan.
Image generation can appear in different quality tiers. More complex tasks can consume more allowance, and third-party Marketplace apps have their own subscriptions or limits. Check the AI usage balance in Billing instead of assuming that a free account or paid design plan provides unlimited generation.
Review rights and the result
Canva permits personal and commercial use under its terms, while warning that outputs may not have exclusive rights or be cleared for use. Recognizable brands, characters or people can require permission that Canva cannot grant. Review the image before publishing it, and do not treat a generated product concept as a photograph of an actual item.
