How to export Draw.io to PNG or JPG

Draw.io and diagrams.net include image export controls. PNG is normally the better choice for diagrams because it keeps text and lines sharper and can preserve transparency.

Export a Draw.io diagram as an image

  1. Open the diagram in Draw.io or diagrams.net.
  2. Choose File → Export as, then select PNG or JPEG.
  3. Set the crop, border, zoom, width, and background options.
  4. Preview the dimensions and export the file.
  5. Open the exported image at full size and check small labels before sharing it.

PNG or JPG?

Choose PNG for diagrams

PNG handles sharp lines, UI screenshots, flat colors, and transparent backgrounds well.

Choose JPG for smaller photos

JPEG may produce smaller photographic images, but compression can blur fine diagram text and connectors.

Use SVG for scalable output

If the destination supports SVG, it can preserve crisp vector shapes at different display sizes.

Need to go in the other direction?

The reverse task—reconstructing a PNG or JPG as editable Draw.io shapes—requires an image-to-diagram converter.
