SVG AI creates editable SVG graphics from text prompts, optional reference images and follow-up edits. Its official homepage lists logos, icons, illustrations, lettering and reusable web graphics among its uses. The output is described as editable vector paths, not simply a raster image placed inside an SVG container.
The developer documentation makes an important distinction. Generate creates a new design or reinterprets a reference; vectorize traces an existing image into paths. Use the latter when the aim is to follow already-clean artwork, and generation when you want a new visual direction.
Refine, then inspect the SVG
The prompt-based editor changes colours, details, composition or style. A focused instruction is worth testing against the original: check whether changing one element also changes another. The homepage's own colour-edit example notes that an AI revision altered paths, tone and framing as well as the requested fill colour.
For an initial evaluation, choose a simple icon or original logo concept, request one edit, and compare the versions at their intended display size. Inspect the paths and test the chosen file in the target design tool or website. These are suggested checks, not a claim that this overview tested vector quality.
Tracing has its own limitations. The documentation says edges, fine details and colours can change. An opaque background is traced unless background removal is requested; if removal fails, the original image is traced instead and the response reports that outcome.
Paid export and developer access
Website signup provides starter credits, but SVG export requires paid access. The pricing page also distinguishes monthly credits, which do not roll over, from purchased credit packs that do not expire. Account plans have different saved-design retention periods, so download important work rather than assuming it remains stored indefinitely.
REST and MCP access use the same account credit balance. The documentation says generation and vectorization through those routes require a subscription or credit purchase; website starter credits alone do not unlock API use.
For an application integration, check current operation costs before generating. If a generation is accepted but still processing, retrieve it through its polling URL instead of immediately creating another request that may spend credits again. Review the applicable rights and your source-image permissions before commercial use.
