ChatGPT is OpenAI's conversational assistant for explaining concepts, developing ideas and working with material you provide. The official capabilities overview lists drafting, rewriting and summarizing content alongside question answering, translation and logical reasoning. You can continue a conversation with corrections or additional context instead of treating the first response as finished work.

The product includes several models and tools. Paid customers can choose among available foundational models, while tool access depends on subscription level and settings. This entry covers the ChatGPT application; it does not promise access to a particular named model or define developer API billing.

Work with sources and uploaded material

Search supports looking up recent information online. Deep research is described as reading multiple online sources and producing cited, structured output for more involved research. Check the cited pages when a conclusion depends on a source, and distinguish a researched answer from an answer generated without retrieval.

ChatGPT can summarize uploaded PDFs, presentations and text documents or answer questions about their contents. Image inputs include diagrams, screenshots and charts. The overview also describes generating images and requesting changes in natural language, which gives you a separate visual-creation workflow alongside document work.

For structured data, ChatGPT can run code to analyze and visualize spreadsheets or CSVs. A useful check is to compare a reported total with the original rows and inspect the assumptions behind a chart. These are review suggestions, not results from a hands-on accuracy test.

Keep context and control access

Projects organize chats, files and context under a shared objective. Canvas provides a workspace for editing text or code, while voice mode supports spoken conversations on supported platforms. Availability should be checked in the account you intend to use.

When memory is enabled, the overview says you can view, edit or delete remembered facts. It also notes that memory is not available in custom GPTs. Custom GPTs instead use tailored instructions, selected tools and supplied knowledge files. Some users can schedule one-time or recurring tasks; that wording does not establish access for every account.

Review sharing permissions and data-handling settings before submitting sensitive material. The capabilities page does not establish a price, complete usage quota or confidentiality arrangement for your workspace. Generated text and analysis still need review before you publish them or use them to make a consequential decision.
