Kai Companion
Kai Companion is an Apple safety app built around a help chain for people you choose. The Kai website describes one trigger sending trusted contacts an SMS with an Apple Maps location link and automatically calling the primary contact. Contacts receive standard messages and calls, so they do not need to install Kai.
Setting up the help chain
Setup consists of choosing trusted contacts and customizing the safety message. The app attaches the current GPS location to that message when an alert begins. Trigger options include a Siri command, a press-and-hold safety button, a check-in timer, and lock-screen access through Companion Mode.
A timer escalates if you do not confirm that you are safe before it expires. The button provides a short cancellation countdown, while the publisher describes a sixty-second grace period for fall detection. These controls let you cancel an accidental trigger before the help chain proceeds.
The app includes a test mode that sends contacts a clearly marked test SMS. That is a useful way to check your contact choices and message before relying on a configured help chain. Kai advertises operation without Wi-Fi or cellular data, but its outgoing help requests still use SMS and regular phone calls; establish that those channels work in your intended setting.
Context, health data and nearby places
Kai uses Apple Health heart-rate variability data and describes alerts for unusual trends. Its contextual features include morning briefings, night-watch and unfamiliar-area notifications, plus post-trigger check-ins. These are the publisher's described monitoring features, not evidence of a medical diagnosis or guaranteed detection.
An interactive map shows nearby police, hospitals, pharmacies and support organizations. Apple Watch integration contributes fall-detection and health data. Widgets, Live Activities and Dynamic Island access place the alert controls within the Apple interface.
Devices and privacy
The FAQ lists iPhone and iPad availability and Apple Watch support, with no Android version planned at the time of the page. Kai supports English, German, Spanish, French, Polish and Russian, and lets users choose the safety-message language.
Kai says it requires no account and has no cloud backend or data collection. The company describes contacts, vital signs and location history as stored on the iPhone; triggering the help chain intentionally shares the current location with the selected contacts.
