ChatGPT Exporter is a browser extension for downloading conversations from ChatGPT into files. The publisher's page lists PDF, Markdown, text, CSV, JSON and image formats. It can help someone keep a research exchange, share selected answers or move conversation material into their own notes.
Selecting what to save
The documented process is to install the extension, open a conversation on chatgpt.com and use its export control. Checkboxes let users select individual messages rather than downloading every response. Review that selection before sharing: a conversation can contain private context or a preliminary answer that should not leave the workspace.
Export settings include a filename, content title and PDF presentation options. The page describes light or dark output styling without changing ChatGPT's interface, with page numbers for long PDFs. Choose a format based on the next use: editable notes need a different output from a fixed document intended for reading.
Formatting and browser support
The publisher says it preserves elements such as code blocks, tables, mathematical formulas, Canvas and research outputs. That is a formatting claim, not a guarantee that every current ChatGPT element will survive a conversion. Inspect the exported file, particularly formulas, code indentation and long tables, before relying on it.
Chrome is the supported browser named in the FAQ. The publisher also describes installation in Edge, Brave and other Chromium-based browsers through the Chrome Web Store. Check the extension permissions and compatibility with the account you intend to use; the public page does not establish support for every browser or workspace configuration.
PDF processing and allowances
The FAQ states that PDF generation temporarily processes conversation data on the service's servers, while Markdown, text, JSON, CSV and image exports run within the browser. Its promise of deleting PDF data afterward is the publisher's claim, not an independent privacy audit. Consider that processing difference before exporting confidential material.
The pricing page gives the free tier a daily PDF allowance and higher allowances to paid tiers. Non-PDF exports remain listed in the free features. Paid plans also list branding removal and multi-device support, with displayed annual-billing equivalents.
An export preserves a record of a conversation; it does not verify the answers in it. Check citations and factual claims separately, then inspect the selected messages and resulting file before sharing or archiving it.
