Chrome extension

Page Assist

Gives you a sidebar and web interface for chatting with AI models running on your own computer, such as through Ollama.

What it does

Page Assist gives Chrome a sidebar and a simple web interface for chatting with AI models that run on your own machine, for example through Ollama or Chrome's built-in AI. It suits privacy-minded users and developers who already host local models.

Key features

  • Opens a sidebar for asking a local model about the page you are browsing
  • Provides a minimal web UI for chatting with your local model provider
  • Lets you chat with PDFs and documents such as CSV, TXT, Markdown and DOCX
  • Supports vision models and optional internet search
  • Includes beta tab mentions and MCP client support

Use cases

  • Asking questions about a long PDF without sending it to a cloud service
  • Using a locally hosted model as a general chat assistant while browsing
  • Comparing how different local models handle the same document

Getting started

Set up a local model provider such as Ollama first, then open the Page Assist sidebar or its web UI and select one of your installed models.

Good to know

It does not include a model of its own, so answers depend on the hardware and models you run locally. It is an open-source project whose code is published on GitHub.
