What does “Fairness” mean?

Fairness: Goal of ensuring an AI system treats people and groups equitably. Researchers have proposed many mathematical definitions, such as equal error rates across groups, and some cannot be satisfied at the same time, so choosing which notion of fairness applies is partly a values decision, not only a technical one.
