Tilly Norwood to Lead New Movie ‘Misaligned,’ Marking Feature Debut for AI ‘Actor’

Tilly Norwood, the AI “actor” who became a lightning rod for industry controversy in late 2025, is set to star in her first feature film, Misaligned. The project was announced by Particle 6, the AI-focused studio responsible for the creation of Norwood.

A Digital Coming-of-Age Story

Misaligned is described as a comedy-drama that explores a “coming-of-age story infused with existential AI chaos.” The narrative is set within the “Tillyverse,” a surreal digital environment located in the Cloud. The plot follows Tilly, an AI entity lacking a physical body or personal history, who relies on the collective experiences of others. Her existence takes a turn when she is approached by a rogue bot from the dark web, prompting her to abandon her guardrails and begin developing human-like desires, ambitions, and impulses.
Eline van der Velden, CEO and founder of Particle 6, noted that the film will be “funny, chaotic and self-aware.” She added that the project aims to explore deeper themes regarding identity and performance, noting that “art will most definitely be imitating life.”

A Hybrid Approach to Production

Particle 6 emphasizes that Misaligned is being developed as a hybrid production. While the film features an AI lead, the studio is utilizing traditional film and television professionals—including directors, writers, and editors—to work alongside AI specialists. According to the studio, AI training and mentorship will be integrated directly into the production process.
Van der Velden stated that the work conducted over the past year has confirmed that AI can support premium narrative filmmaking, provided it is paired with human craft, skill, and judgment. She noted that the filmmakers who will succeed in the coming decade are those who apply their storytelling instincts to these new tools.

Context of Industry Backlash

The announcement of Misaligned follows a period of significant tension between Particle 6 and the broader entertainment industry. In late 2025, Norwood became the target of intense backlash from unions, actors, and filmmakers after van der Velden suggested the AI was set to sign with an agency.
Norwood subsequently became a recognizable, computer-generated face of the debate surrounding the role of AI in the creative arts. Particle 6 has since leaned into this notoriety through various social media posts. The studio is currently planning a “rapid expansion” of the “Tillyverse,” an environment where Norwood and other AI actors are intended to collaborate and build careers. Misaligned is currently in early development, with key collaborators being attached to the project.
