Google Invests $75 Million in A24 to Develop AI-Powered Filmmaking Tools
Independent studio A24 and Google have entered into a strategic AI research partnership aimed at developing new, AI-powered technologies for the film industry. As part of this collaboration, Google has invested approximately $75 million into the studio, a figure reported to be in line with the investment made by Thrive Capital during A24’s previous funding round.
Collaboration with Google DeepMind
The partnership centers on a collaborative effort between A24 and Google’s DeepMind unit. Under the terms of the agreement, A24 will gain access to DeepMind’s research and infrastructure. In return, researchers from DeepMind will work directly with the studio to build out new workflows designed to assist filmmakers.
Protecting Content and Data
While the partnership focuses on technological development, the deal includes specific protections regarding the studio's existing assets. According to the details provided, the agreement does not grant Google access to A24’s content library or its proprietary data. This ensures that the collaboration remains focused on the creation of new tools rather than the utilization of the studio's existing intellectual property for training purposes.
