Karakeep
Karakeep collects bookmarks, notes, images, and PDFs in one searchable library. The publisher describes fetching page metadata and adding AI-generated tags and summaries, helping you retrieve material after the original reason for saving it has faded. Cloud hosting and an open-source self-hosted version are available.
Save the content, then find it again
The application offers full-text search alongside keyword, hybrid, and semantic modes. OCR makes text in screenshots and images searchable. Full-page archives are intended to protect saved material against link rot, while the article reader supports highlights and offline reading in mobile apps.
Automatic tags are useful starting points, but review them when a collection depends on a precise subject or category. A generated summary should not replace the original page when checking a quotation or an important qualification. Franklin has not measured search quality or archive coverage.
Build a collection that updates itself
Karakeep describes rules that act on newly saved bookmarks, including adding tags or placing matching URLs in a list. It also subscribes to RSS feeds and saves new posts, making them searchable with the rest of the library. Lists can themselves be published as RSS feeds.
Shared lists support editor and viewer roles. The platform also exposes an MCP server, CLI, and a Markdown-first API with scoped permissions. Give an integration the access its task needs; publishing a list or granting write access changes who can use the collection.
Choose hosting and account limits
The pricing page lists a free cloud tier with ten bookmarks and 20 MB of storage. Pro is shown at $4 monthly or $40 annually, with 50,000 bookmarks and 50 GB. Check current limits before moving a large existing library.
Self-hosting is free, with infrastructure supplied by you. Its unlimited-bookmark language does not remove server storage or maintenance costs. The cloud cancellation policy says data remains available for thirty days and bookmarks can be exported. Plan an export before leaving rather than treating a canceled account as a permanent archive.
