Pick one that does a single job you need, then open its Chrome Web Store page and read who publishes it and what it asks to access. Be wary of an extension that wants to read every site when its task only needs one, and keep the number you install small.
Open the extension's page here and choose Add to Chrome to go to its Chrome Web Store page, then select Add to Chrome there and confirm the permissions Chrome shows. It then appears under the puzzle-piece Extensions icon, where you can pin it to the toolbar.
Open chrome://extensions, or right-click its icon and choose Manage extension. Turn it off to pause it, or choose Remove to uninstall it. You can also limit it to specific sites under Site access.
