json-canvas

Help an agent create and edit JSON Canvas files with validated nodes, edges and connections.

Overview

The JSON Canvas skill explains the structure of .canvas files used for visual boards. It gives an agent workflows for creating a canvas, adding nodes, connecting existing items and editing a board without losing its references. The instructions cover coordinates, node identifiers and the edges that connect nodes. Validation is part of the workflow: the file must parse as JSON, identifiers must be unique and each edge must refer to an existing node. This makes the skill useful for building or maintaining mind maps and flowcharts in a format that a compatible application can open.

Getting started

Install the skill from the original repository, then provide a new canvas brief or an existing .canvas file. Validate the JSON and node references before opening the result in your canvas application.

Compatibility and requirements

Works with JSON Canvas files; the original instructions reference JSON Canvas Spec 1.0.

Things to know

A syntactically valid file can still need visual adjustments. Check node positions and connections in the application that will display the canvas.
