Build an app from a description

Bolt is StackBlitz's AI-powered builder for websites, web apps and mobile apps. Its starting workflow is a chat prompt describing what you want to build. You then use Build now to create a project and continue making changes through the conversation.

The official introduction lists landing pages and e-commerce sites alongside applications such as job boards, booking platforms and project-management tools. Bolt builds full-stack web applications with JavaScript-based frameworks. Mobile-app development uses its Expo integration.

Keep working in the browser

Bolt runs in your browser and sets up the development environment. StackBlitz developed the underlying WebContainers technology for running Node.js in a browser. You do not need to install a local development environment to begin the documented workflow.

Developers can choose frameworks, connect source control and edit files in code view. The documentation says users own the code they create and can use it for legal purposes, including commercial projects. Bolt also offers a choice of AI agents for different building tasks.

Bring an existing project and connect services

You can start with a new description or import work. Bolt documents importing GitHub repositories, Figma frames and designs exported from Google Stitch. It also supports bringing in a Lovable project.

Its listed connections include GitHub for version control and collaboration, Stripe for payments, Google SSO for authentication and MCP servers for external tools or data. Project collaborators can share access and use multiplayer mode to work together in real time. Teams plans add shared prompts, templates and team-level controls.

Publish with Bolt Cloud

Bolt Cloud brings databases, hosting and domains into the project. The documentation describes automatic database creation when an application needs one, with a table view for exploring and editing data. You can manage users and authentication there, and optionally claim the database and connect it to Supabase.

Publishing includes a bolt.host subdomain. Paid users can connect custom domains and access additional publishing options. Bolt says its pricing is based on tokens and token usage; consult the current pricing page for your intended workload.
