Jarq: translate, rewrite or dictate into the Mac app you are using
Jarq is a Mac utility for editing text where you are already typing. Select a passage to translate, shorten or rewrite it, or use a hotkey to dictate text into the current field. The publisher describes a menu-bar app that avoids moving a draft into a separate chat window.
Act on a selection instead of copying it out
The Jarq homepage describes buttons appearing beside selected text. You can replace the passage in place or copy the result for pasting. It also lists a shortcut for reaching text in apps that block ordinary selection, including Figma and terminals.
Custom actions turn your own instruction into a button. A request to fix grammar or make a sentence more formal can sit alongside language buttons, while remappable hotkeys let you adjust the controls. Jarq says selected text is treated as material rather than a command.
That is relevant to bilingual messages and repeated editing tasks. Review the replacement before sending it, particularly if a request contains a commitment, number or technical term. A smoother sentence still needs to say what you intended.
Dictate into the current field
Jarq supports dictation that inserts punctuated text at the cursor. Its publisher lists thirteen languages and describes speaking in one language while typing in another. The page names English, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese, French and German among the supported languages.
The app includes an optional on-device recognition model. Jarq says that mode keeps voice input on the Mac and remains free and unlimited on every plan. Cloud processing is separate: the publisher says a recording or text selection is processed in memory without retention or training use.
Those are the company's privacy claims, not an independent verification. History stays on the Mac according to the homepage. Check the privacy policy and mode you selected before dictating confidential material; using a local recognition option should not be confused with making every rewrite local.
Check hardware and the daily allowance
Jarq requires Apple Silicon, M1 or later, and macOS 13 Ventura or newer. The installation starts with a 14-day Pro trial without a card or account. Afterward, Free allows five dictations or translations per day, with the separate unlimited on-device dictation option.
The captured pricing lists Pro at $4.99 per month or $39 per year, and a $179 one-time offer. Paid options support up to two Macs. Confirm current prices and licence terms before buying, since the one-time offer is labelled a launch price.
The publisher describes broad app compatibility, but this overview does not confirm behavior in your particular editor or input field. We have not installed Jarq, tested language accuracy or audited its handling of selected text.
