ViMax is an open-source project for coordinating AI video production. Its repository describes workflows that plan a story, generate characters and storyboards, create shots and assemble video. The software connects configured language, image and video providers; it is not itself evidence that those providers will produce a consistent finished film on every run.

The repository lists an MIT license and setup instructions for Linux and Windows. Running the code requires a local environment and model-provider configuration. An open-source license does not make the underlying generation services free.

Choose a starting point for the story

Idea2Video begins with a short concept and develops stories, characters, scripts and shots. Script2Video instead starts from an explicit screenplay, giving the creator more control over the narrative being adapted. Novel2Video targets longer fiction through compression, character tracking and scene planning.

AutoCameo uses a reference photo of a person or pet in generated stories. Use images you have permission to upload, and check the provider's handling of reference media. The project's consistency features are useful controls to evaluate, rather than a guarantee of identity fidelity across scenes.

Before rendering a larger project, inspect the planned scenes and reference frames. A changed character description or contradictory shot requirement can propagate into several generated assets. Test a short sequence first and review continuity between its shots. The repository includes demonstration videos, but selected demos do not establish a success rate for an arbitrary script.

Review artifacts in an interactive workspace

ViMax includes an Agent Loop and terminal interface for discussing ideas, revising plans and resuming sessions. Its web interface adds named projects, uploaded source files, storyboard previews, render progress and provider settings. The web and terminal workflows share the agent runtime and private configuration.

The setup instructions use uv for the Python environment. The web interface also requires Node.js eighteen or newer and frontend dependency installation. Its documented server binds to the local loopback address by default. Keep credentials in private configuration or supported environment variables rather than committing them with the project.

Budget for generated candidates and revisions

The image-selection workflow generates two keyframe candidates and lets a vision-capable chat model choose one. The repository notes that this can improve quality at a higher API cost; setting the candidate count to one disables that selection. Parallel shot generation can reduce elapsed production time, but each provider call can still incur charges.

Set a budget for the language planning, images and video together. Review intermediate artifacts before paying for more renders, and confirm which generator classes and models the installed version supports. The roadmap includes future items alongside completed work, so a listed plan should not be assumed available.

ViMax fits creators or developers willing to configure and inspect a multi-stage production workflow. Its professional-quality and continuity claims need testing on the intended material. Expect to review narrative pacing, visual artifacts and the assembled result before publishing.
