Cline is an AI coding agent for working in an editor or terminal. Its official overview says it can read and write files, run terminal commands and use a browser while you describe the task through conversation.

The VS Code extension documents human-in-the-loop approval for its tools. The overview also describes explicit approval for agent actions. Read the proposed operation before approving it, particularly if a command changes files or contacts an external service. An approval prompt gives you a review point; it does not establish that a proposed change is correct.

For an initial evaluation, use a small development task with clear expected behavior. Ask Cline to explain the relevant files, then review a proposed edit and its commands. Those are suggested evaluation steps rather than a claim that Cline has demonstrated reliable results on your codebase.

Select the application and model route

The overview lists a desktop app, CLI, VS Code extension and JetBrains plugin. It also lists support for other editors, including Zed and Neovim through ACP mode. Confirm the setup for the application you intend to use before assuming a workflow transfers unchanged between clients.

Cline's CLI supports interactive chat and headless automation for CI/CD or scripting. Because the same overview describes human approval, verify the applicable automation controls before relying on an unattended run. The captured overview does not explain those controls in enough detail to prescribe a safe headless configuration.

Model access includes Cline usage billing, a subscription route and provider credentials supplied by the user. The bring-your-own-key route includes cloud providers or local runtimes. Check the chosen model's costs and data handling; access to the agent does not imply unlimited inference or local processing.

Team controls and custom integrations

Cline lists enterprise controls for sign-on, roles and team-specific model or tool access, along with remote configuration. It also documents observability integrations and management of organization members and permissions.

Developers can use Cline's SDK to build agents, automations and integrations on the same core as its applications. Treat this as a separate development route if you need custom behavior. The overview establishes available product surfaces, but does not supply a benchmark, a universal safety guarantee or enough implementation detail to certify an integration.
