AfterSession
AfterSession helps mental health professionals draft documentation after an appointment. The clinician supplies a short typed recap or a brief spoken observation, then reviews a structured note. The product does not record or listen to therapy sessions and does not make clinical decisions.
A recap becomes an editable draft
AfterSession supports SOAP, DAP, BIRP, GIRP, and PIE formats. You choose the format, provide your observations after the session, and edit the generated note before saving. The workflow guide says nothing is finalized without clinician review.
You can guide the tone and phrasing through custom prompts and preferred patterns. That is relevant if your practice uses a consistent documentation style, but the clinician still needs to check the factual details and decide what belongs in the record. The software structures the recap you provide; it does not capture a full session for later verification.
Working alongside an existing EHR
The site describes use on phones, tablets, and desktop devices. You can save a note in AfterSession, export it as PDF or text, or copy it into the EHR you already use. The service targets solo clinicians and small group practices, including therapists, counselors, psychologists, and social workers.
AfterSession is a note-generation tool with no scheduling or billing features. Its homepage also identifies full EHR integration and on-premise hosting as requirements it may not meet. Those boundaries are worth checking before evaluating it as part of a practice's wider software setup.
Trial and clinician pricing
The pricing page offers a trial of seven days or five notes without a credit card. Standard pricing is $49.95 per month for the first clinician and $29.95 per month for each additional clinician. It includes unlimited note generation.
The limited Founding Clinician option lists $29.95 per month for the first clinician and $19.95 for each additional clinician. The pricing FAQ says the discounted rate lasts while the subscription remains active, so confirm availability and that condition before relying on the advertised lifetime rate.
Publisher privacy statements
AfterSession says it deletes voice input after processing, encrypts data in transit and at rest, and does not use client data to train AI models. It describes US-based HIPAA-eligible infrastructure and offers a Business Associate Agreement after upgrading to a paid subscription. The free trial includes note generation only, with the BAA available after upgrade. These are publisher statements about the service, not an independent compliance assessment for a particular practice.
